Montfort Secondary School

"A montfortian. A man for others"

About MSS

Montfort Secondary, established in 1916, is a Government Aided School of the Montfort Brothers of St Gabriel under the Catholic Archdiocese of Singapore.  As a Catholic school, we espouse the Universal Gospel Values and are committed to providing an inclusive environment for all our boys regardless of faith and background.

We also believe that there is a place for an all-boys education, giving them appropriate structure and discipline, and the space to grow and discover their leadership and talents.

School History

In 1916, Father Laurent, Parish Priest of Serangoon started Holy Innocents’ English school in a two-storeyed building.  The school flourished and in 1936, the Brothers of St Gabriel were approached to take over the management of the school.

In 1959, the school was renamed Montfort School, in honour of St Louis-Marie Grignion de Montfort, the priest whose efforts to educate youths were carried on by the Brothers of St Gabriel.

In 1974, the primary section was split from the main school and became Montfort Junior School.  Montfort Secondary school shifted to its present premises in 1992.

Boy-Centric Teaching

It has long been established through many educational and brain researches that boys and girls learn differently and hence there are many merits if schools’ curricula and pedagogies can be designed to leverage on the natural dispositions of the learners. The shift to a learner-centric teaching focusing on the profiles and learning styles of the students is necessary to better engage students in their day-to-day learning and to maximize their potential for success in school.
