Assumption English School
"Through Work Achieve Success"
About AES
Assumption English School is the only Co-educational Catholic Mission School in the western part of Singapore. Our students go through the MOE-stipulated curriculums and sit for the GCE ‘O’ and ‘N’ Level Examinations at the end of their 4- or 5-year education.
The school seeks to cultivate the Joy in Learning in all Assumptionknights and remains committed in its mission to develop Men and Women of Character and Learning through its programmes.
Our Legacy
Assumption English School was first known as Boys’ Town English School. We were established by Brother Vincent, one of the Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel, in 1953.
In 1973, the school merged with the Secondary section of CHIJ Bukit Timah and was renamed Assumption English School in honour of our Lady, Mother Mary, the Patroness of the Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel. Subsequently, in 1992, the primary school section closed down due to school upgrading process, and our students were absorbed by St. Anthony’s Primary School.
In 2013, the school underwent another rebuilding programme and was officially opened on 7 July 2017 by the then Minister of Education (Schools), Mr Ng Chee Meng. The rejuvenated school campus now incorporates more extensive facilities and educational resources to engage Assumptionknights in their learning and character development.

Applied Learning Programme (ALP)
SPeak English with grAce and Knowledge (SPEAK)
SPeak English with grAce and Knowledge (SPEAK), the school’s Applied Learning Programme, aims to develop Assumption knights to become confident and eloquent communicators through a spiral progression of oracy skills in line with the 2013 revised English syllabus.
- Secondary 1 students will collaborate in groups to produce book trailers;
- Secondary 2 Assumptionknights will take on the roles of media producers and create newscasts; and
- Secondary 3 seniors will continue to hone their skills and confidence levels by addressing a live audience during assembly or recess to campaign for a social cause.
Through other platforms such as the Inter-Class Debate Championship, Poetry Showdown, and external oratorical competitions, Assumptionknights are presented with the opportunities to showcase their speaking and presentation skills and learn from their peers in or from other schools.
