Father Simon Tan

"It's a great joy to serve the people of God all these years"

SGF's Congratulatory Message

On January 1st 2023, many of us celebrated New Year’s Day and prayed to the lord for strength, guidance and blessings in the new year. But for Fr Simon Tan, the day marked much more. He celebrated his 25th anniversary of priesthood. And he did it “with love and thanksgiving to God” for “His Great Love” towards him.

Reflecting on his life and journey, Fr Simon has fond memories of his time at Montfort School (where he’s from the Class of 1981), especially his time spent with teacher, Mr Joseph De Cruz who “prophesised” that he would become a priest. That prediction was realised when the French priest, Fr Berthold inspired Fr Simon to join the Redemptorists.

Though he’s now based in Novena, Fr Simon is very much an Hougang Boy at heart, and still converses in his native, Teochew.

“As each one has received a gift, use it to
serve one another as good stewards of God’s varied grace.”
1 Peter 4:10

Having reached this sacred milestone, Fr Simon continues to thank God through the people he serves. He says, “It’s a great joy to serve the people of God all these years.”

Do join us in congratulating Fr Simon on his Presbyteral Anniversary, and let’s pray that he will continue to be strengthened and filled with the courage to serve the lord, the Church and its people faithfully.
